About The Bursary


The available funding opportunities serves as a commitment to skills development, meaningful socio-economic transformation, and the country’s broader development agenda. 

In most instances you can expect the sponsorship to offers the following:

  1. Full bursaries to attend ANY registered higher education institution covering tuition, textbooks, accommodation, food, and other approved necessities.
  2. On-going psycho-social support provided by Excel@Uni.
  3. Light-touch mentorship for developing essential skills imperative for personal and professional growth.  
  4. The funding is renewable annually, based on performance & budget.
  5. Work-Back Requirement: If your application is successful, you will be required to work for the sponsor for the length of time that they sponsored you, otherwise you will need to pay the bursary funds back with interest added. 

However, full details of what is covered by the sponsorship will always be confirmed by the donor during the drafting of the award letter. 

Who Can Apply


Applicants must be: 

  1. South African citizens
  2. Below 36 years of age at the time of starting the qualification they require sponsorship for.
  3. In 2023; be studying matric or on a gap-year after matric in 2022
  4. In 2024; be studying their 1st or 2nd year of their qualification
  5. Have an interest in working for the Bursary Provider
  6. Belong to a BBBEE racial designated group (Black, Coloured, Indian, etc)
  7. Studying full-time (2024 onwards). 
  8. Studying at a DHET/SAQA-recognized tertiary school/university. 
  9. Unemployed (not working full-time in 2024), 
  10. Only self-funded students will be considered (students who already have a bursary do not qualify, and those with NSFAS will need to cancel it if their application is successful).
  11. Have applied to study in 2024 or have already been accepted for registration in 2024. 

Bursaries are offered only for studies leading to higher certificates, diplomas, degrees or equivalent NQF-rated qualifications. 

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation.

When will you receive feedback:

Feedback will ONLY be sent to successful candidates within 12 weeks after closing date. If you have not heard back from us within those 12 weeks, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Please prepare the following documents:

    All Applicants: 

    1. Certified copy of a valid South African identity document
    2. Recent certified Parents/Guardian's valid South African ID (or death certificate if deceased)*
    3. A 1-page motivational letter explaining why you want to study this qualification and what makes you uniquely-valuable for the sponsor to invest in your studies & career. 
    4. Proof of household income (certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians) - Please attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if parent/s are unemployed*
  • All certified documents must be less than 3 months old. 
  • *Where you have multiple documents for 1 submission, please combine/scan them into 1 file that you can upload.

    Scholar in Matric

    1. Grade 12 Term 2 Report (stamped) - With official school stamp 
    2. Grade 12 Term 2 Report (stamped) - With official school stamp
    3. Grade 11 end-year report (with school stamp)

     

    Scholar in Matric / Gap Year Student

    1. Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12) 

     

    Honours/ Masters/Doctoral

  • DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE BURSARY

    Optional Docs

    1. Disability? Dept of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter *
    2. Did you get funded by another bursary/NSFAS?; upload your bursary agreement/letter/offer*
    3. A copy of 2024 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. - Official letter showing you've been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2024*

For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
